Kiwifruit Maturity Clearance Testing
Agfirst BOP is the independent laboratory contracted by Zespri International to collect and process kiwifruit orchard maturity clearance samples for Zespri?s export maturity clearance programme. Agfirst BOP have successfully run this project for over 10 seasons, involving the registration, collection, processing and reporting of every Zespri Gold, Zespri Green, Kiwistart and Zespri Green Taste Zespri orchard in New Zealand.
Agfirst will test a 90 fruit sample from an orchard maturity area/s. If the sample meets the specified standard, a clearance will be issued for that maturity area of the grower line to be accepted by Zespri. Some of the tests carried out on clearance samples include Brix, Dry Matter, Seed Colour, Weight, Flesh Colour, Core Disorder and Firmness. Each 90 fruit sample will have several of these tests depending on variety and time of season. These tests will determine when growers are able to harvest their crops and also at what rate they will get paid for their fruit.
The Agfirst BOP laboratory operates 7 days a week during the kiwifruit season. On peak days in excess of 400 samples have been collected and processed.
The whole process is managed using a fully integrated website developed in house over the last 6 years. It features multiple level accesses for growers, pack houses and Zespri Staff. The same website is used by Zespri in offshore countries licensed to grow Zespri owned cultivars.
